Improving knowledge of cetacean populations through photo-identification campaigns

Summary

Tragsatec is procuring 30 months of vessel-based cetacean monitoring and photo-identification campaigns to assess population parameters, habitat use and conservation trends. The six lots cover bottlenose dolphins in the Rías Baixas; bottlenose dolphins on the southern Atlantic shelf; bottlenose dolphins and short-finned pilot whales in the Strait of Gibraltar; bottlenose dolphins and sperm whales in the Balearic Islands; bottlenose dolphins, Cuvier’s beaked whales and tropical pilot whales in the Canary Islands; and orcas in the Gulf of Cádiz and nearby waters. The work includes campaign design, surveys, photo-identification catalogues and databases, population analyses, and interim and final reports. The estimated total budget is €2,616,110 excluding tax (€3,049,582.20 including tax).
