Tender detail

Installation of the Essen Citybahn overhead contact line system, Work Package 4.10

Summary

The tender covers the supply and installation of the overhead contact line system for approximately 650 m of double-track tramway on Haus-Berge-Straße in Essen, as part of the Citybahn project (Work Package VE 4.10). The work includes supplying and installing approximately 1,500 m of contact wire and 1,500 m of messenger wire, around 30 single-track catenary cantilevers, three cross-spans, eight tensioning springs and three pole-mounted switches with remote drives. It also includes removing two temporary poles and their foundations; the necessary installation, fixing, cabling and connection work; testing, adjustment, readjustment and commissioning; and connections to the existing overhead line system. The system is to be designed for a nominal voltage of 750 V DC (operating voltage approximately 825 V). Work will be carried out in phases alongside other road, sewer and track works. Continuous access to the work area cannot be guaranteed, and general traffic and bus services will normally remain in operation. The contractor must coordinate with the company responsible for traffic safety and the other construction participants, and provide the necessary equipment, lifting gear, scaffolding, tools, measuring and testing equipment. The main works are planned from March to the end of 2027; the overhead line system is to be operational and safe by November 2027, with final readjustment planned for mid-2028. The bid submission deadline is 4 November 2026. Check the official tender documents for the precise technical and participation requirements.
