Non-destructive analysis and scientific imaging interpretation of Theodore Géricault’s The Raft of the Medusa

Summary

The Musée du Louvre is procuring non-destructive analysis and scientific imaging interpretation services for Theodore Géricault’s painting The Raft of the Medusa. The work includes capturing images in visible light, raking light, ultraviolet fluorescence, infrared light, infrared reflectography and X-rays; post-processing all images; and producing false-colour infrared, reflectography and ultraviolet images. At least 30 points in different areas of the painting must be examined both under a microscope and with portable X-ray fluorescence (XRF) equipment. The contractor must deliver a detailed illustrated analysis and commentary report. Work will take place at the Louvre from 1 to 15 December 2026, and the deliverables are due by 6:00 p.m. on 1 March 2027. Offers must be submitted electronically by 12:00 noon on 20 October 2026. Evaluation will consider technical quality (65%), price (30%) and sustainable-development commitments (5%).
