Market survey of biodegradable snow and ice melting products

Summary

Stara, the City of Helsinki construction services unit, is conducting a market survey to identify biodegradable products for melting snow and ice on streets, pedestrian and cycle routes, and other maintained areas. This is not a call for tenders or the launch of a procurement procedure. Manufacturers, importers and suppliers may provide information on liquid, granular or other suitable products, including their technical and environmental properties, uses, delivery possibilities and indicative prices. Particular attention will be paid to corrosion effects, melting performance, required application quantities and compatibility with existing working methods and spreading equipment. The desired solution should not require major process changes or significant new equipment investments and should ideally require no more material than the calcium chloride solution currently used.
