Request For Information – Supply of Boronophenylalanine for pharmaceutical preparation of compound for BNCT treatment

Summary

This is a request for information, not a tender or an invitation to submit bids. HUS Pharmacy is seeking information from suppliers able to manufacture pharmaceutical-grade L-4-boronophenylalanine, also known as borofalan or BPA, for preparing the BPA-fructose compound used in boron neutron capture therapy at the HUS Comprehensive Cancer Centre. Estimated consumption is 2–4 kg per year from 2028, although this may change as the treatment develops. Interested suppliers should describe their approximate minimum and maximum order quantities per production batch, lead time to delivery in Finland, shelf life after batch release, quality assurance and production quality management. They should also identify any regulatory requirements for delivering boron-10 isotope to Finland and may provide information on other boron-10 carriers for BNCT. The product must meet the specified identity, purity, impurity, solvent, endotoxin and microbiological limits. Information may be submitted in English or Finnish by 1 October 2026. HUS Pharmacy intends to use the RFI to prepare a possible later formal procurement and is not obliged to proceed with any procurement.
