Design of the Altavista secondary school refurbishment and extension, including a geotechnical study

Summary

The contract covers preparation of the basic and detailed design for refurbishment and expansion of the IES Altavista secondary school in Arrecife, Lanzarote, together with a geotechnical survey of the site. The project is intended to expand lower-secondary capacity to four streams, upper-secondary provision to two streams, and provide facilities for three basic vocational-training programmes. It must also include facilities for students with special educational needs, a covered sports pavilion, landscaped and shaded outdoor areas, and the school’s required building systems. The design must be delivered in two phases so that teaching can continue: first, a new teaching building, sports pavilion and associated outdoor works; then refurbishment of the existing building and improvement of the remaining outdoor areas. The contractor will also prepare the building-services designs, necessary studies and approvals, and the construction budget. The delivery period is six months from the start date set in the contract. The estimated contract value is €211,975 excluding IGIC, and the maximum tender price is €226,813.25 including 7% IGIC. Tenders are evaluated on the technical solution (51 points), price (34 points) and experience with similar projects (15 points). The technical submission is limited to 10 A2 drawing sheets and a 15-page A4 descriptive document. Bidders must propose an architect as project lead, provide a suitably qualified technical team, and meet the professional indemnity insurance requirement of at least €211,975.
