Construction of a new maintenance closure beam in the upper forebay of Bamberg Lock

Summary

Construction of a new maintenance closure beam in the upper forebay of Bamberg Lock, enabling the upstream entrance area to be drained for maintenance. The works include sheet-pile enclosures, underwater and reinforced concrete structures, steel frames, 14 precast concrete sections forming a 56-metre-wide beam, and restoration of the bed and banks. The project is a pilot for similar works at other locks, with navigation to be maintained as far as possible; specified works within the canal cross-section are scheduled for the lock closure from 5 to 24 April 2027.
