Archaeological Services

Summary

The contract covers archaeological monitoring and investigations in advance of the six-lane expansion of the A3 Nuremberg–Passau motorway between the Deggendorf interchange and the Hengersberg junction in Germany. Investigations are required before construction on approximately 9.6 hectares where archaeological sites are known or suspected. Twenty-five per cent of each relevant area—around 2.3 hectares in total—must be surveyed. The A soil horizon is to be examined across most of the area, and the B horizon on approximately 3 hectares as well. The work includes monitoring topsoil removal, excavating test trenches, excavating, recording and recovering archaeological features and finds, and providing the necessary excavator work. The bidder must provide the required archaeological team and excavator services, name the qualified personnel, and demonstrate their education, relevant experience and, where applicable, German-language proficiency. Complete excavation documentation must be delivered to the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments within 20 working weeks after excavation ends. The bid must be submitted electronically by 13 October 2026 at 10:00. Price is the sole award criterion; the contract is not divided into lots, and multiple main bids and variant bids are not permitted. The contract requires compliance with applicable tariff-based working conditions, including by subcontractors and labour providers.
