Ecohydrological study of Kikbeek and the Mechelse Heide protected area
Summary
The Flemish Government is procuring a single-lot ecohydrological study of Kikbeek and the Mechelse Heide area. The study will model the effects of raising water levels in the Kikbeek quarry lake on groundwater levels and groundwater-dependent vegetation, and assess additional wetland restoration measures in Mechelse Heide, Ziepbeek Valley, Neerharerheide and Asbeek. It will evaluate options for climate-resilient nature restoration while considering the long-term stability of the quarry and lake and the protection of critical infrastructure such as the E314 motorway.
