Application and selection procedure for operating the Trier Christmas Market from 2027

Summary

The concession concerns the operation and continuous development of the Trier Christmas Market from 2027, mainly at Hauptmarkt and Domfreihof, with Brunnenhof as an optional area. The operator must organise and run the market at a high design, organisational and tourist quality level, recruit suitable traders, provide the necessary infrastructure, ensure safety, hygiene, cleanliness, waste-water management and order, and respond to changing legal, safety, technical, environmental and tourism requirements. The concession runs for five years from 2027, with an option for one further five-year extension. The operator receives no payment from the city, may charge participating traders, and bears the operating and commercial risk. Offers must be submitted electronically in German by 13 October 2026 at 10:00. The evaluation assigns 10% to the annual payment offered to the City of Trier and 90% to quality, including the market concept and design, trader mix, safety, hygiene and cleanliness, decoration and lighting, supporting programme, and communications. The operator must also maintain liability insurance with minimum annual cover of EUR 2,000,000 for personal injury, EUR 1,000,000 for property damage and EUR 100,000 for financial loss.
