Laboratory analysis of microplastics in sediments – 2026

Summary

The tender concerns laboratory analysis of microplastics in sediments from the Lower Saxony coastal waters for a monitoring pilot beginning in 2026. The work covers 15 samples: 12 sediment samples and 3 blank samples. The buyer may optionally order a further 3 sediment samples. The contractor must collect the samples from the buyer and analyse microplastic particles measuring 5,000–20 µm in accordance with the 2024 OSPAR guidelines. The work includes sample preparation, separation and identification of microplastics, determining particle counts, size classes, polymer composition and morphology, photographic documentation, delivery of raw data, and a short report on methods, results and recommendations. Contamination must be prevented in laboratory work; glass or metal materials must be used, and water and solutions must be filtered to below 2 µm. Bidders must submit evidence of relevant previous work or a scientific publication, identify qualified personnel, and confirm the required liability insurance or undertake to obtain it. The tender must be submitted in German through the buyer’s electronic tendering tool by 20 October 2026 at 10:00. Only one main tender is permitted and variants are not accepted. The lowest net price, excluding the optional work, determines the award. Raw analytical data, photographs and the final report are due by 31 March 2027.
