Study on child poverty and mental health

Summary

The University of Leipzig, in cooperation with Save the Children Deutschland, intends to conduct a nationwide representative survey in Germany of poverty-affected children and adolescents and one of their guardians. The aim is to obtain a representative assessment of the mental health status and risk factors among poverty-exposed children (primarily within the SGB II basic security framework) and to explore factors influencing information seeking and help seeking. The survey will use scientifically established instruments (e.g., SDQ and KIDSCREEN-27) in 2–3 languages. The target sample comprises approximately 1,000 child/guardian pairs, with interviews conducted directly with children aged 11–17 in the presence of a guardian; online data collection is possible. A detailed survey concept is required, covering nationwide representation, data quality and representativeness, and data delivery. The tender offers two service packages: up to 30,000 EUR and up to 90,000 EUR (both VAT inclusive). The total budget is up to 120,000 EUR. Deliverables include anonymized, cleaned and weighted primary data and item responses, provided as Excel and SPSS datasets, with an indicative start in Q4 2026 and a deadline for bid submissions specified in the tender documents.
