UNSEA – A holistic approach to preventing marine pollution from fishing gear
Summary
The tender concerns the seven-year UNSEA project, running until 31 December 2033, to prevent abandoned, lost and discarded fishing gear from entering the North and Baltic Seas, reduce its environmental impacts and identify and recover legacy waste. The contractor must coordinate ten work packages covering project management, public communication, circular fishing-gear design, alternatives to dolly ropes, port collection infrastructure, prevention of net-repair waste, gear marking, hotspot mapping, reporting and recovery, and measures for recreational fishing. The work includes stakeholder coordination, research, field trials, workshops, annual recovery campaigns, reporting and preparation of a public-law agreement on extended producer responsibility.
